As seen by Elvarlyn. Posted under Lithmeria as a Combat log.

Selkrener has been working hard on getting naval stuff worked out, and this is a log of the early results.

In this log, our ship 'The White Wolf' takes on a vicious Snipperest.

The White Wolf is a Gunboat class light ship, built of pine which defaults to having one light weapon mount on the deck and two medium weapon mounts in the hold:

"The White Wolf" is a gunboat.
It has a top speed of 4 knots, an acceleration of 2 knots/round, and a turn rate of 90
degrees/round.
The ship is facing west.
The sails are down, and the anchor is down.
The hull strength is 100 out of 100.
The ship is using 8.3 of 10 cargo space.

Weapon Mounts:
A catapult in "On the deck."
A medium ballista in "In the hold."
A medium ballista in "In the hold."

Ship Modifications:
None

Things to know:
- Naval combat is in alpha, so it's pretty rough so far.
- This log is from Dagon's point of view, he is in the hold with me manning the ballistas. Selkrener is manning the helm and steering the ship, while Saghani is firing the catapult.
- The Ballistas Dagon and I are using have been modified to be 'Double Winged' which means they can fire twice before reloading, but reloading takes much longer.
- When firing a ballista, one can specify whether one thinks the target is near/middle/far and whether it's bearing is clockwise/counterlockwise/centered in relation to ones ship. Guessing any of these right gives a damage bonus, guessing them wrong gives a damage penalty.
- The Snipperest fights in large part by summoning a giant electrical storm, which is what the yellow "Z's" are.

I think that's the closest thing to a combat log I ever read without getting bored. It's pretty realistic, and I like how it's not really as coding-intensive as pk. Once the kinks get ironed out, ship combat is going to be awesome. Sidenote: snipperets are nasty -- I can't wait to see what else Selkrener and Saghani come up with for sea monsters.

It was also a lot of fun to make, honestly. The speed of it all makes it pretty intense as you try to quickly guess distance and bearing before it darts out of your firing arc. I imagine it was even more intense for the person steering as he had to avoid the storm while trying to keep the thing in our firing broadsides. The snipperest is a very quick monster, darting about super fast so the whole thing played like an arcade game.
